Budha Budhi Check Dam,
Budha Budhi Village, District– Gaya, Bihar

The villagers of Budha Budhi in Bihar had long been seeking a check dam and approached various organizations for support . However, they were quoted exorbitant costs ranging from ₹2.5 to ₹6.5 crores, and no progress was made. When they approached us, the structure was finally built at a cost of ₹19 lakhs from sponsors and ₹18 lakhs contributed by the villagers. In the very first year, the dam filled to overflowing, directly benefiting 40 downstream villages. Noticing surplus water still remaining in the dam, the villagers took the initiative to build a canal . This massive effort now serves 70 additional villages . Today, this single check dam and canal system supports the water needs of 110 villages, impacting a population of over 30,000. Within a year, there was a significant boost in agriculture and livestock productivity, positively transforming the lives of over 30,000 villagers and laying the foundation for lasting prosperity across generations.

Cost to Earning Analysis

A total of approximately Rs. 59.17 crores sponsors' donations and Rs. 25.82 crores villagers' contribution has been spent on this work so far. The total annual net earnings of the villagers in the year 2024 were approximately Rs. 3,475 crores, and the same seems to be repeated and will continue to grow year after year. Our most expensive check dam has cost Rs. 36 lakhs of sponsor's money and has transformed 10 villages with an approximate total population of 10,000 people. Thus, per person, we have spent a meagre sum of Rs. 360/-. This amount, once spent, will bring prosperity and abundance to several villages for generations to come. In fact, with little sustained maintenance done by the villagers themselves, it becomes an eternal source of prosperity.
